Tachograph Uses in Limousines

A tachograph is a piece of equipment which is both a clock and a speedometer and recent limousine regulations say that one must be fitted to all limousines rated to carry more than eight passengers, or limousines which are over 3.5 tonnes. The tachograph is installed in the limousine and records the vehicle’s speed, and the amount of time it has been both moving, and stationary.

The tachograph prints onto a round piece of paper which rotates throughout the chauffeur’s work day. The marker will move closer or further away from the centre depending on the speed of the limo, and an entire rotation of the circle of paper encompasses a 24 hour period. There are both analogue and digital tachographs available, but with the analogue data being recorded on a waxed paper disc, they were easily tampered with.

Tachographs are used in an effort to improve road safety and are aimed at reducing the amount of cases where chauffeurs are forced to work long and excessive hours so their limo hire companies can get ahead. Tachographs are also useful after an accident as they monitor and record the speeds of the vehicle during a chauffeur’s shift.
